The return to office discussion seems to focus on whether it is better for employees to be working in the office or from home or some balance between the two. What we have realised over the last eighteen months is that office based working is not the only way. The traditional Monday to Friday work in the office approach is the equivalent of a hardwired landline telephone in the telecomms sector. The COVID-19 pandemic has provided a glimpse of what the Workplace and FM equivalent of a smartphone could look like. It would be more valuable to consider a solution based on the broader role of Workplace & FM, how it enables the core business and how it can assist individual and collective sustained productivity, rather than where the work takes place.
