Session Description
Buildings are critical promoters of our well-being and health as humans, recent statistics also shows majority of us now spend most of our time indoors due to the global issue of the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the topic takes a deep dive into our everyday technology and how it drives sustainability, resilience and safety in our homes and buildings. It also considers how healthier buildings attract healthier occupants and tenants."" Rosalynn Carter said, “There is nothing more important than a good, safe, secure and smart home.” It then makes it super clear the need to reside in homes that boost our psychological, social, and human behaviour, Homes that make us more effective and sounder, homes that promote our health and largely supports sustainability. Resilient homes are the amplified next generation ‘Green Buildings’ that promote human health and human experience (HX) in buildings. It integrates technology and a wide range of concepts & applications that boosts sustainability, wellness, and effectiveness in humans. The presentation also looks at how the COVID-19 Pandemic has increased the amount of time spent at home from 25% to over 85%. Making the virus a major stressor and catalyst towards pushing many buildings to adopt healthy practices, upselling itself to allow buildings adopt resilient styles that will dawdle long after the outbreak fades. So, why should our homes be resilient? Our homes should be resilient in order to: • Adapt to Climate Change • Promote human continuity • Increase productivity levels • Lower health care costs • Combat extremes and threats such as Flooding, Wastewater, Land subsidence etc. Furthermore, we showcased some Resilient homes solutions and features that works with our voices, fingerprints, smart phones, code or just by our motion such as. • Smart door lock systems • Smart gate and electric fence systems • Smart washing hands basin and shower system • Smart water heater system • Wall pads and smart motorized tv holders • Smart automated temperature controls smoke detectors • Smart lights, mirror, staircase lights etc.
