Technology has become even more accessible as innovation has been accelerated at an unthinkable pace in the response to COVID19. Looking at property and workplace technology specifically, new solutions keep popping up such as temperature check kiosks including facial recognition, enhanced desk booking systems, workplace sensors and a whole new suite of productivity tracking tools. Privacy implications and other impacts of such measures may be justified by the extent of the current crisis, but even in an emergency, our human rights must still be protected. Furthermore, how can we ensure that extreme measures do not become the new normal when the period of crisis passes? How to create and adopt technology that is sustainable and ethical in the long run?
